- Hurricane Katrina is now a Force 5 hurricane (that means effin huge)
The city of New Orleans is under mandatory evacuation. If this thing hits there, especially if the eye passes over Lake Ponchertrain (big lake right at the mouth of the city) then New Orleans has a GOOD chance of being under water(up to 15 FEET) by next tuesday.
CHANCES ARE- the storm could come up to VA...if so, good chance that water and power will be out for a while.
EVERYBODY should go to the store and get a good supply (3-4 days) of bottled water and canned food. We are not going to experience the level of damage the Gulf is right now, but it could knock out power and water for a good while.
My pops works for the American Red Cross disaster services and he gets this information daily.
hurricanes are unpredictable, so, this is a rough estimate, but theyve been right in the past before. This thing could theoretically leave land in georgia go out to the atlantic pick up strength and come hit us, but slim chance.
